Tell us how government has helped out
I’m curious: What charities, churches and compassionate citizens have relieved government of the burden of farm subsidies? How much has your family received in farm subsidies in the past 10 years? The total for Idaho County in that time? Please tell us how government has helped out – I’d really like to know.
I’m grateful for farmers who provide food for the nation through their own hard work and the support of the ever-faithful taxpayer. I’ve never felt the need to chastise the farming community for acceptance of corporate welfare in their enterprises. But when you, a state legislator/farmer who has accepted subsidies for years, publicly berate the poor for their need of healthcare assistance, it’s time to have a better understanding of social programs that uphold a society.
I don’t begrudge the safety-net you are provided, yet I hope as you share your Christian values you might hear more clearly the gospel message to care for the poor. Let the veterans and the homeless and those in need have their food stamps. Let those who need it have expanded Medicaid services. Much fraud in healthcare is at the top – insurance companies, unethical providers, corporations involved in the creation of wealth.
Remember the story of Jesus at the temple topping the coffers of those he took to task for their hypocrisy?
