KOOSKIA — Since stumbling against Genesee on April 28, the Clearwater Valley baseball team has been on a tear.
The Rams edged Highland 11-9 last Wednesday, April 30, then trounced Troy 9-3, then turned away Timberline 13-11, then swept Potlatch 7-1, 3-0 to ramp their winning streak to five straight games.
“Any time you can play 14 innings and only allow six hits and one run, you know your pitching and defense are playing well,” CV coach Josh Bradley said of the Potlatch games. “I was happy we played solid defense and got our bats going.”
Mitch Morrow struck out 11 during the shutout win.
The Rams’ postseason began after the Free Press print deadline last Tuesday. The Whitepine League’s top seeds, Genesee and Prairie, will meet the winners of the CV-Kamiah and Troy-Potlatch 1A District II tournament play-in games.
Should sixth-seeded Potlatch top third-seeded Troy, the CV-Kamiah winner would face Prairie at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, May 8, at Lewiston’s Airport Park; if Troy advances, CV-Kamiah winner faces Genesee at 3:30 p.m. May 8. The tournament will continue, double elimination-style, with state berths available to both the district champions and the runners-up.
